The following is provided for your information - please do this only at your own risk
Don't blame me if you cant undo the steps below - just take careful note of what you change and you should be fine - but remember that you may have to call tech support at engin if you stuff up the settings and cant remember what they were.
I'm sure they won't be happy with such a call, either - they lock you out partly to make their life easier with tech support by having a box that is locked and reconfigures itself whenever it connects to the internet.
How to unlock
If you are interested in how to unlock the sipura box, I have collected from the forums (plus a little experimentation of my own) the following steps. Please note that if you do this, you wont be able to use engin as your VoIP provider, but you can restore the profile if needed to reconnect to them.
Disconnect VoIP box from internet
Do this by either unplugging your phone line to your dsl modem, turning off your modem or similar. You do want to keep your local network working ok, however.
Reset the Sipura box
Pick up phone and type:
* * * * (Star key 4 times) Activates supervisor mode
Box will speak to you
73738# Sipura reset code for SPA 2000 box
1 Confirm your reset
hang up
Find VoIP box on your network.
You will need to have a web browser and access to your VoIP box via your local network.
Note that if the VoIP box can get to the internet it will reconfigure itself in seconds and lock you out of its web access - you must do this whilst it is off the internet.
By default, this will normally be set using DHCP. It can be a little hard to find. The Sipura 2000 box does not respond to pings, so broadcasting doesn't help.
Usually the location is next to your own computer (presuming that your computer uses DHCP to configure itself). So if you know your own computer's IP address, the VoIP box will usually only be different by one or two from yours, depending on how big your IP pool is.
You can find your own ip address using the command line/terminal app and type in "ipconfig" for windows or "ifconfig" for linux or mac. It will usually be a four digit number starting with either 192.168.x.x or 10.0.x.x - these are most commonly used in home networks.
For example, if your computer has the IP address of 192.168.0.2, there is a good chance that the box will be 192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.3 or 192.168.0.4
It doesn't take long to guess a few of these and just plug them into the web browser
If you cant find the IP address, you can force a static IP address on the Sipura box:
Pick up the phone and type:
* * * *
Press 101# and choose 0, to disable DHCP
Press 111# to set your IP address by pressing 1
Press 121# to set your Subnet Mask
Press 131# to set your Default Gateway
(Typically set gateway to the ip address of your NAT/firewall)
Examine the configuration of the box using a web browser
In the address bar type:
http://x.x.x.x/
where x.x.x.x is the address of the VoIP box on your network you have worked out from the above or have set above.
Then make sure you are logged in as admin
Click on the admin logon link if it is underlined
the address in your address bar should read
http://x.x.x.x/admin
Then make sure you are looking at advanced settings
Click on the advanced link on the web page - the address bar should read:
http://x.x.x.x/admin/advanced
Click on provisioning tab
The address bar wont change when you do this, but the provisioning tab should be active
REMOVE THE PROFILE STRING
Normally set as:
config.mobileinnovations.co m.au/sipura/$MA/spa.cfg
Note, the value $MA will be substituted for the mac address of your VoIP box. You can get this from the info page of the box interface.
So, for example, if your MAC address is 0123456789AB, you can download your configuration file from the web at the following address:
config.mobileinnovations.co m.au/sipura/0123456789ab/spa.cfg
This requires that you use lower case for the hexadecimal parts of the MAC address, so if you want to download the configuration file from mobile innovations replace any letters in the MAC address from A to F with the same letter in lowercase a to f
The file is a binary configuration file, so its a little hard to decode - anyone on whirlpool who has an interest in decoding it, would be useful to post here. Presumably it contains your password in there somewhere. You can save the file away for interest, but I don't know what else you can do with it as yet.
Save your changes - click on the save changes option on the web page
Reconnect to the internet - Plug your modem back in/ turn it on/ undo whatever you did to get off the internet in the steps outlined above.
Your VoIP box is now unlocked, but not usable on engin.
To restore your engin connection
To reconnect to engin, paste the string back in to the profile box:
config.mobileinnovations.co m.au/sipura/$MA/spa.cfg
and save the changes. Within seconds the box will reboot, reload the spa.cfg file from the internet, connect to engin and lock you out again.
